What’ll You Have?

Top-notch entertainment, drinks and friends await at Sandpoint icon

By Colin Anderson

Ask any Sandpoint local and most will be able to share a story of a fun night at the 219. The stories might vary a bit depending on the age of the storyteller, but fun is always the theme of the story. While the interior might have changed several times over the past 85 years, the top-notch entertainment, cocktails and lively atmosphere remain the same. For owner Mel Dick and his staff, it’s all about showing customers a great time. They see everything from the recently turned 21 crowd to adults in their 70s enjoying the scene and dancing away to the music. “Our customers love our live music. We are the place they come to have fun, relax and listen to music ranging from classic rock 'n roll to blues, jazz, Americana, indie rock and more,” says Mel.

Those in their 70s might remember a time during the 1950s when their parents would frequent the ‘Niner’ as it’s come to be known, for a Las Vegas-style lounge experience complete with working slot machines. A quick glance at the photos that line the walls of The 219 and you can revisit some of the amazing history inside one of Idaho’s oldest establishments. Recently awarded the top music venue in Sandpoint by Sandpoint Living Local magazine, you’ll find live local and regional musical acts and entertainment, karaoke and drink specials throughout the week. Acts and entertainment change weekly so check out the 219’s Facebook page for the most up-to-date entertainment calendar.

Not just for music, the Niner has Sandpoint's largest selection of craft beer on tap.

Featuring 20 rotating taps, you'll always have a choice of something new and different. Beer isn't for you? “We pride ourselves in crafting classic cocktails with fresh ingredients and an eye for detail,” says Mark Terry, 219 general manager. “With the largest selection of liquor in town, we want to make sure you have your needs met.”

Locals keep coming back and summer travelers continue to make The 219 Lounge a must stop during their trip. The atmosphere, entertainment, camaraderie and commitment to service keep The 219 rocking, even into its 80s!
