A Foodie's and Shopper's Paradise
By Mandy Braviroff
Centrally located in beautiful Coeur d’Alene is a foodie’s and shopper’s paradise better known as The Culinary Stone. This 5,500-square-foot food gourmet heaven was dreamt up back in 2013 and modeled after an old outdoor market setting. The owner, Sandy Volkar, says they “wanted it to be a place for culinary enthusiasts of all levels.” Offering cooking classes and affordable high-quality kitchen gadgets from all over the world make this place a full-on experience when visiting. It's a place for all to gather, shop, eat and enjoy—a melting pot of all things culinary in just one stop.
Dealing with local farmers and suppliers keeps this grassroots-minded company one of the best places to stop—not only in North Idaho but any time you're in the Northwest. Plan to spend some time while visiting, as this isn't your typical one-stop shop. Filled with gourmet food, wines and culinary supplies, everyone is sure to find something to take home with them. While visiting you will also notice the eclectic fixtures that adorn the interior setting, which in itself tells a story about how this place came to be. “The goal is to be able to continue to build upon what we have started,” states Sandy, “to provide an exceptional customer experience and culinary environment for the whole community.”
This epicurean paradise of all things delicious also offers a wide selection of fine deli meats and cheeses to go. The deli also offers daily made fresh soups, sandwiches, salads, and made-to-order meat trays and charcuterie boards. The café showcases fresh roasted coffee, cakes, pastries and other yummies, all locally made. The welcoming baristas will offer an assortment of espresso drinks, teas and their famous Golden Milk.
Whether it's food, wine or worldly kitchen gadgets you seek, every bon vivant of the Northwest will be sure to find what they need and what they didn’t know they needed. Be sure to check out the barbecues on Thursday nights in the summer, which offer its goers delicious food while enjoying the warm evenings and live music on the patio—just what summers are all about!
