Evans Brothers moved into downtown Coeur d’Alene with the opening of their second café at Fifth and Sherman in November 2017. The Coeur d’Alene expansion had been on the horizon for some time, just awaiting the perfect location. If you have visited the Roastery and Café in Sandpoint’s Granary Arts District, you will have an idea of the community hub and destination café that the brothers now bring to the Coeur d’Alene community.
“Our goal has always been to deliver a special experience around a cup of coffee,” says Randy Evans, owner. “We want to create ‘aha’ moments, which connect people with how special the journey is from seed to cup in true specialty coffee.” Along with the quality emphasis, the company is driven by a desire to create meaningful connection and a sense of community. As his brother and partner Rick Evans says, “We also love Coeur d’Alene and are so excited to connect with the community here, to be involved and to bring value to the neighborhood!”
In their Coeur d’Alene shop, you will find the same focus on quality and outstanding, friendly service that helped the Sandpoint café place Top 3 in America’s Best CoffeeHouse. In addition to several espresso options on a three-group La Marzocco Linea PB, the bar features a Marco SP9 automated single-cup brewer, which offers unique tasting experiences. Along with great coffee, the team is sourcing some of the world’s best teas and chocolates. “Everything we offer is high quality. But we want to serve it in a way that is very approachable and welcoming to all,” says Rick.
A big part of the success of Evans Brothers is in the passion they bring to their craft. They travel regularly to coffee origin, often with their baristas. In the past year they have gone to Brazil and Colombia as part of Café Imports’ Best Cup program to financially reward the producers of the best quality coffee in a particular region. The top coffees are selected out of more than 700 submissions, with the best offered at a live auction. Evans Brothers has secured top-10 lots on each of these three trips and has seen firsthand the difference this makes in the lives of the producers and their families.
This focus has also paid off for Evans Brothers, as they are the only Idaho company to have won not one but two Good Food Awards.
Evans Brothers also offers a wholesale relationship with quality-oriented cafés and restaurants. They are the exclusive roaster for Big Blue Coffee (Kootenai Health) along with Schweitzer Mountain Resort.
